Tuning your instrument.
The tuner doesn’t react when I play. What should I do?
Check that the app can use the microphone: on iPhone, open the Settings tab of the app and tap Access microphone; on Android, allow the microphone when the app asks, or in your phone’s app settings. Then play in a quiet room, keep the phone close to the instrument and pluck one string firmly. With an electric instrument, play through an amplifier.
The tuner picks the wrong string. Why?
In automatic mode, the tuner chooses the string closest to the note it hears. If a string is far out of tune, turn off Auto and tap the string you want to tune: the tuner then only listens for that note.
Why are some tunings locked?
The standard tuning of each instrument is free. The other tunings come with the subscription. On Android, you can also unlock one tuning at a time by watching a short video.
Can I tune to A = 432 Hz or create my own tuning?
No. The tuner uses A4 = 440 Hz and the tunings listed in the app. To reach another note, use the chromatic mode.
Is there a left-handed mode?
Yes. Turn on Left-hand mode in the app settings (on Android, in the menu of the tuner screen): the strings and the chord diagrams are flipped.
Questions & answers
Lessons and chords.
The lesson doesn’t recognize my chord. What can I do?
The lessons expect a 6-string guitar in standard tuning: tune it first with the tuner. Allow the microphone, play in a quiet room and strum all the strings that belong to the chord. Check the finger positions.
Are the lessons free?
Yes. Every lesson can be played without a subscription. Free users see ads between lessons.
Why are some chords locked in the chord library?
All the chords built on C are free. The subscription unlocks the other eleven root notes. On Android, you can also unlock one root note at a time by watching a short video.
Is Chords AI available on Android?
Not at the moment. Chords AI is available on iPhone and iPad. Learn more about Chords AI.
Questions & answers
Free version & subscription.
Is Guitar Tuner Pro free?
Yes. You can download and use it for free, with ads. A subscription removes the ads and unlocks the alternate tunings, all the chords, the full metronome and, on iPhone and iPad, the full Chords AI.
How do I cancel my subscription on iPhone?
Open Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Select Tuner Pro, the name of the app on the App Store, then Cancel Subscription. If no cancellation button appears or an expiration message is shown, it is already canceled.
How do I cancel my subscription on Android?
Open your subscriptions in Google Play using the account you subscribed with. Select Guitar Tuner Pro, tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a Google Play subscription.
I paid, but my subscription isn’t recognized. What should I do?
